With EFT tapping, meridian points are stimulated to help unblock energy. At the same time, a positive affirmation phrase is used. Therefore, EFT tapping addresses both the mind and body. This self-help technique has also been shown to lower levels of cortisol in the body. Cortisol is a stress hormone that is released by the adrenal glands during fight-or-flight situations.

EFT Tapping Technique

First, you must identify the emotional or physical issues you want to target. Next, it is important to determine the intensity of the problem you’re facing, on a scale from 1 to 10. An intensity of 10 would be the highest level of discomfort or significance the issue is causing and 1 is the lowest. You then come up with a short reminder phrase that identifies your issue and neutralizes negative beliefs, such as “I lost my job, but I completely love and accept myself." This phrase serves as an affirmation.

While repeating your reminder phrase, begin a tapping sequence on nine meridian points that correspond to internal organs in the body. While tapping, you state your affirmation phrase and move along the body in a specific sequence. You then test your intensity level and continue with the tapping sequence until you reach a low-intensity rating.
